Youth and Service
Youth Summer Trips
Each summer, Middle School and Senior High Youth have the opportunity to participate in mission trips and/or youth conferences.
The Youth trips have included:
- Senior Highs attend the Presbyterian Youth Triennium, a triennial gathering of over 6000 Presbyterian Youth held at Purdue University.
- Senior Highs attend the Montreat Youth Conference, a national Presbyterian Youth conference held at the Montreat Conference Center in North Carolina.
- All youth take a mission trip to a city, such as Chicago, Minneapolis, St. Louis, and New York.
In 2006, youth traveled to Chicago, IL, working with inner-city children in homeless shelters and day camps, an adult day care center, and home rehabilitation and repair.
In 2007, the Senior Highs attended the Presbyterian Youth Triennium "HOPE is In Our Midst " July 17-22.
In 2007, youth and adults traveled to New Orleans June 9-17 to help rebuild .
Another trip to New Orleans is tentatively being planned for Summer of 2008. Youth 16 and older may participate. Contact Lori for more information, or to let her know that you're interested!
Service Through the Year
Youth are active in the life of the congregation throughout the year, serving as ushers, greeters, and liturgists, helping with childcare and Vacation Bible School, and volunteering with the Sunday Evening Meals Program.
Souper Bowl of Caring-the Youth also participate in the Souper Bowl of Caring, which collects food and money donations for the hungry on Super Bowl Sunday. In 2007, FPC Youth collected $$484. Nationally, 14,135 organizations participated and raised $
7,803,622.
