Youth and Christian Education at First Pres
Sunday School
During the school year, Sunday School is offered for Grades 6-7, 8, and 9-12. Curriculum for Grades 6-7 and 9-12 is Seasons of the Spirit, which follows the lectionary. (The same Bible passage studied in class is the same passage that will be preached on in worship.) Grade 8 is Confirmation Year. That class is using I Know My Bible, a survey of the Old and New Testaments.
Confirmation
Confirmation is offered
for youth in 8th grade and above. The program is designed to help youth
make the decision for themselves to become
an active
member of our congregation.
Although the program may change slightly each year, in general confirmation class meetings take place on Sunday mornings during the Sunday School hour.
There are also several field trips, such as:
- A visit to another worship service
- Temple Judah,
- To walk a labyrinth, an ancient method of prayer and meditation.
The confirmation class members are expected to read the Gospel of Luke, write a personal Statement of Faith, and spend time in conversation with members of the Session. Confirmands are received into membership usually in May.
