Mission Trips

"There is neither Jew no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus."
-Galatians 3:28

Mission Trips

Members of First Presbyterian have participated in mission trips, both in the United States, and abroad.

The youth of first Presbyterian have the opportunity to go on an annual mission trip, in the United States.

The church has also sponsored members on trips outside of the United States. The information brought back from these trips are inspiring and thought-provoking for all.

The most recent trip was a visit from our Presbytery to the Cerea Presbytery near Fortaleza, Brazil. Three members of our church were sponsored for this visit.

In 2007, members of the church travelled to New Orleans. It was an intergenerational trip for the whole church.  A subsequent trip was planned for June 2008 but plans were changed due to the flooding of the Cedar River in Cedar Rapids.  Members of the work group, joined by many other church members have worked to clean up flood damaged buildings and help in reconstruction..

In the late summer of 2009 a Educational Travel group from the congregation visited sites related to the founding of the Presbyterian Church in Scotland including touring locations related to John Knox and other reformers as well as the Abbey of Iona on the Isle of Iona where Christianity was introduced to Scotland in the 6th Century by St. Columba and members of his order.
