" We must no longer be children, blown about by every wind of doctrine... but speaking the truth in love, we must grow up in every way into Christ."
-Ephesians 4:14-15

Forum is held at 9:00 a.m. Sunday mornings in the Forum room downstairs from September through May. Adults participate who seek in a Christian context insight and discussion of religious and contemporary topics. The three series for the coming year are described below.

Relationships

Jesus taught that our relationships with our neighbors and even our enemies are the most important part of our lives.

Our Community

April 6, The Rich and the Poor, Dale Todd, former Cedar Rapids Parks Commissioner
What are the “poor' saying and doing? Are there different communities in Cedar Rapids that don't understand each other? If so, do they have a common interest? Is there something we at First Church can and should do to respond to the needs and desires of the poor?

April 13 , Local Government, Kaye Halloran, Cedar Rapids Mayor
To whom does the city council listen and why? Do our obligations as citizens end after the election of representatives? What can and should we do to help make government as “good” as possible?

April 20, Kids in their own Culture, Ralph Plagman, Washington High Principal
What is the contemporary culture for high school students? Are there more than one culture among today's high school students? How do adults communicate with their children if they don't accept their parent's values and goals?

April 27, Business and their Workforce, Lee Clancy, Cedar Rapids Chamber of Commerce President
Does bisiness have responsibilities to their employess other than self interest? How can local labor compete with foreigh cheap labor? Can business be expected to help their home community if it doesn't profit them directly?

The American Gospel

May 4, Americans' Shared Cultural Values, Peter Jauhiainen, Kirkwood Religion Professor
What values and ethical principles unite Americans? Is there a disconnect between the values that most Americans profess to embrace and the ones that they actually imbody in their lives? If so, why? What shoud this matter to Christians?

May 11, This is What We Believe, What Do We Do Now? Ted Miller, First Presbyterian Senior Pastor
How should we practice religion in our everyday lives? What is the “tipping point” to convert belief into action in our lives? Where do we start?
