" See what love the Father has given us, that we
should be called the children of God; and that is what we are."
-I John 3:1 Christian Education and Children at First Pres
Sunday Morning Church School
9:00-10:15 A.M.
In the gospel's description of Jesus, the writer of Luke tells us that "the child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him." In our ministry to children at First Presbyterian we place a high priority in our Christian education on the reality that the favor of God is also upon our children. Those who teach and those who learn discover that when one has the sense of God's outpouring of love upon them, we grow in our love and outreach to others.
Using the six senses of sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch, and spirituality, our learning environment employs an interdenominational scripture-based curriculum called Seasons of the Spirit. Each Sunday from 9:00 to 10:15 a.m., children ages 2 through grade 5 focus on the same Bible passage at their age appropriate level. This fall the focus of our learning is on Paul's letters to the early Christian churches scattered in homes throughout the Mediterranean. Each class as its own "house church" experiences the benefits and challenges of life as a new Christian within a first century Roman home and village.
J.O.Y. (Jesus, Others, You)
A Midweek Fellowship and Faith Growing
Event for Families
Wednesdays, 5:30-7:00 P.M.
On Wednesday evenings from September through May, children and their families are invited to attend this exciting learning opportunity. From 6:00-7:00 the adults may choose from one of three options - In-depth Bible Study, Faith 101 (i.e. The gospel According to Mayberry), or Hands-On Crafts. The children in Grades K-5 rotate between an interactive/hands-on Bible Study and a joyful Worship and Music Skills class. Childcare is provided for infants and preschoolers. Also in this hour, the Middle School youth enjoy a time of growth and fellowship together. Although we encourage the family to attend, children and youth may participate in J.O.Y. without a parent or guardian.
Other Events for Children and Families
Vacation Bible School is typically held in Mid-June with many other worship, learning, fellowship, and mission events occurring throughout the year.
